Standard Intelligence
FeaturedAI that learns to use any software by watching.
Founded in 2024 in Seattle, Standard Intelligence is a six-person team that has built something remarkable — a foundation model called FDM-1 that learns to control software by watching videos of people using it. Unlike traditional AI automation tools built on screenshots or rigid scripts, FDM-1 understands software interfaces dynamically, enabling AI to operate complex enterprise applications the same way a human would. On April 30, 2026, Standard Intelligence raised $75 million in a Series A led by Sequoia and Spark Capital — an extraordinary amount for a six-person company that signals just how high investor conviction is in the agentic AI automation space.

Founder / CEO
Eric Lau is the founder and CEO of Standard Intelligence. A former machine learning researcher with experience at top AI labs, Eric identified the fundamental limitation of existing AI automation tools — they are too brittle and too dependent on pre-defined interfaces to work reliably at scale. His insight to train AI on video of human software interactions has produced FDM-1, a model that can generalize across thousands of applications and landed Standard Intelligence a $75 million Series A from Sequoia and Spark Capital with just six people on the team.
