Founded in 2015 by Nikolay Storonsky and Vlad Yatsenko in London, Revolut launched as a prepaid card with no foreign transaction fees — a simple but powerful idea for frequent travelers. It rapidly expanded into a full financial superapp offering bank accounts, crypto trading, stock investing, savings vaults, insurance, and international money transfers. Revolut now serves over 45 million personal customers and 500,000 business clients across 38 countries. In 2024, it finally obtained a UK banking license after years of regulatory challenges. The company is valued at $45 billion, making it the most valuable startup in Europe and one of the most valuable private fintech companies in the world.
