Neon's architecture separates storage from compute at the Postgres level, enabling features impossible with traditional databases — instant database branching like Git branches, autoscaling to zero, and millisecond-fast provision. Neon raised $46 million in 2023 and became a breakout star in the AI developer tools ecosystem when it became clear that database branching was a natural fit for AI-generated code environments and developer sandbox creation.

He previously co-founded CockroachDB, one of the most widely used distributed SQL databases in the world, and before that was a software engineer at Microsoft SQL Server and MemSQL. He founded Neon to bring serverless economics and developer-friendly branching to Postgres — the world's most popular open-source database.
