dbt Labs
Transform data in your warehouse.
Founded in 2016 by Tristan Handy, Drew Banin, and Nick Handel in Philadelphia, dbt Labs created the dbt framework that has fundamentally changed how data teams work. Before dbt, data transformation was a chaotic mix of stored procedures, spreadsheets, and custom scripts. dbt brought software engineering practices — version control, testing, documentation, and modularity — to the SQL code that powers analytics. The open-source project exploded in popularity and the company raised $222 million in 2021 at a $4.2 billion valuation. Today the dbt community has over 50,000 active practitioners and dbt models power the analytics infrastructure of thousands of companies including JetBlue, HubSpot, and Nasdaq.

Founder / CEO
Tristan Handy is the co-founder and CEO of dbt Labs. He previously worked as an analytics engineer at RJMetrics and founded Fishtown Analytics — a data consultancy that eventually became dbt Labs. Tristan identified that analytics engineers needed software engineering tools for their SQL workflows and built dbt to fill that gap. His vision for the analytics engineer as a distinct professional role has reshaped the data industry and created an entirely new category of tooling adopted by tens of thousands of data professionals globally.
